Ruth Meghiddo was invited by Stavi Architects of San Francisco to be Artist in Residence for the design of a 30,000 square foot office of the Coudert Brothers Law Firm at the Cannery.
Commissioned by the City of Long Beach’s First Council, this built magnolia is a prototype for thirty magnolias to be hung on street posts along Magnolia Avenue as a street identifier.
Finalist artwork to commemorate Signal Hill. The steel sculpture had three components: Raising Smoke, relating to the signals send by local Indians; Oil Derrick, to remind the oil discovery during the 1920’s; and The Hut, as a symbol of habitat by the indigenous population.
Our entry for the memorial had for objective to create an evocative, culturally non-specific design in scale with its surroundings. It had seven components: 1. The Hug, a 500-foot long embrace; 2. the Tower’s Footprints; the Samarium, to commemorate the remains of unidentified victims; the Virtual Hall of Heroes and Victims; the Wall of Ninty-Two Nations; and the Wall of Light.
Ruth Meghiddo was commissioned to design a “wrap around” of a new theater/restaurant in downtown Long Beach. The building served previously as a Bank of America branch, having a large vault in its basement, hence its name. The wrapping was conceived in perforated stainless steel wand LED lighting, to soften the building’s monumental presence.
